Friday Five

Ah, Friday! After a busy week, I'm really looking forward to a weekend of unwinding, relaxing, and hanging out with Justin. Comfy pants, here I come!

I stopped by Banana Republic today and picked up a turquoise bracelet that I've been eying. (The whole store was 30% off!) I'm usually not a bracelet girl because—this is an uber lame reason—I can't for the life of me put on a bracelet one-handed. But this beauty is elastic! Total score!

On the writing front, I'm making good headway on my YA fantasy! I had to re-write the first few chapters because they just weren't working, but I think I've finally found the right direction to take. Fingers crossed I can crank out some words this weekend!

And on the reading front, my dear friend Ellen Oh lent me her ARC of Dark Triumph, the sequel to Grave Mercy, which was one of my favorite reads in 2012. (Assassin nuns in medieval France! Need I say more?) I must say, Dark Triumph did not disappoint! I inhaled the entire novel in less than 24 hours, and I absolutely adored Sybella's story. Sybella herself is wounded and bitter, passionate and prickly, yet all of her anger hides a vulnerable soul with a loyal heart. Yep, I pretty much love her. Two thumbs up!

So what are you up to this weekend? Read anything good lately? Do share!

  1. That is a beautiful bracelet!! Also, I am so curious about your YA Fantasy (since I adore fantasy; it is the genre of my heart). Any hints about what it is?? :)

I'm reading a couple of books right now, but I'm mostly into THE SUMMER PRINCE by Alaya D Johnson. It's a sci-fi with dystopian undertones set in future Brazil. I love the world-building!

  2. That bracelet is gorgeous! Nice work. Good luck on your YA fantasy! I just finished A.G. Howard's SPLINTERED. I highlight recommend it.

  3. Although I am JEALOUS you got to devour Dark Triumph before me, I'm happy you loved it!! *waits impatiently for book to release* Also, that bracelet is gorgeous. Also also, YAY for progress on your new book! I know it's going to be amazeballs :)

This weekend promises a lot of thesis work, as well as some trip planning. *crosses fingers* Hope you have a great weekend, Caroline!

  4. Yay and good luck on your YA fantasy! It's entirely lovely when you stumble upon the right direction. :)

I'm just relaxing a bit this weekend after 2.5 weeks of midterms, doing some beta-reading and hopefully getting a bit of writing in on the side!
