A New Look!

Whew! Blog re-design, you have exhausted me!

I've been wanting to change the look of my blog for a few months now, so I decided to roll up my sleeves this past week and get to work. The most fun part? Designing the new look! It's a bit embarrassing how excited I can get from testing colors and sketching out widgets. But then came the harder part...coding the design!

Holy cow. *Collapses*

I'm pretty much an amateur when it comes to HTML and CSS so it took me hours to figure stuff out, like margin vs. padding, outer wrapper vs. main wrapper, etc. But after staring at blog codes for a very long time, I had a few light bulb moments.

Like, making a horizontal menu bar!

Adding Google Web Fonts!
And coding a little heart by the comments!

I still have so much to learn, but I feel my brain has been opened to the massive world of web coding. (Kind of, anyway.) There are a few things I need to tweak here and there,
but what do y'all think? I hope you like the re-design as much as I do!

And now...sleeeeeeeeep...

  1. Hello, Caroline! I absolutely love the new look of your blog. I've been wanting to learn how to redesign my blog for a while now, but I don't know where to start. Do you have any tips?

  2. Hi Tracey! Thank you so much for your comment--and thanks so much for reading!

Here are a few resources I found helpful coding-wise:

The Pugly Pixel blog along with the Pugly Pixel channel on YouTube - lots of great tutorials and freebies!
The Southern Speakers blog - a ton of helpful tutorials for beginning HTML and CSS
Tips4thetrendyblogger.blogspot.com - another great site with easy-to-follow tutorials

As for blog design, I loved looking at different designers' portfolios for inspiration. Tabitha Emma has really fantastic blogs, as well as Katelyn Brooke Designs and Breanna Rose Design. I also love drooling over the fonts at DaFont.com! There are so many to choose from and most are free for personal use.

I hope this helps a little! Please feel free to email me if you want to chat more!

    1. Thank you, Yahong! Google Web Fonts is such a great resource, and the comment heart wasn't too hard! First, I had to create the little heart icon (I did it in Pixlr, a free Photoshop-like website) and then I uploaded the image to my Photobucket account. After that, it just took a bit of light coding! If you're interested, shoot me an email and I'd be happy to talk you through it!

  11. I love your new blog look! It's so cute and happy. The colors are adorable.

I'm so impressed by your dedication. I know very little about website design, and after I tried once to sort of figure this stuff out, I got way too frustrated, haha. You have much more patience and skill than I! Congrats on your lovely new look. :)
