It is a very fine line ...Yes, you are very correct! It is a very fine line to distinguish legality from morality. Even laws concerning murder *and even the most radical atheist would object to murder) have moral overtones.

I must commend you for mentioning the Stamp Act! Although I studied history in college and I definitely remembered learning about the Stamp Act, I really can't remember what it was about! (Something about taxes in the Revolutionary War?)

Thanks for the comment! I'd be interested to hear your views on the FMA.Caroline Tung Richmondhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10668185436035686911noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21099449.post-1149546047477114682006-06-05T18:20:00.000-04:002006-06-05T18:20:00.000-04:00I would have to agree with Justin in saying that y...I would have to agree with Justin in saying that your ideas are well thought-out, and I just wanted to add my three cents about part of the issue.

While the Marriage Amendment may have 'religious' overtones and supporters, legality is, in a sense, a question of 'morality,' though some prefer not to understand it as such. As in the examples you've pointed out, laws are in place to protect our nation's people in different ways. There are times when changes must be made on a national scale because of their immense impact: for example - though it did not, obviously, result in a Constitutional amendment - the American reaction to the Stamp Act was an issue of 'right v. wrong' which needed to be dealt with on a universal rather than local scale. It's Not a Tubahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06448038392383797876noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21099449.post-1149542283948283992006-06-05T17:18:00.000-04:002006-06-05T17:18:00.000-04:00Well argued. I didn't write my senator either way, but you certainly reinforced my own sentiments.

JJRhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02986143987134518683noreply@blogger.com
